Campaigners are furious that other places such as the Balearics, Galicia and Valencia are being made special cases so homes once threatened flat with demolition because of being too close to the sea will be saved.
The campaign group “Plataforma Canaria en Defensa de los Interes de los Afectados por la Ley de Costas” says the Spanish Government is not going to give its support so it will try the Senate instead.
Group president, José Luis Langa González said the Canaries had more coastline than anyone with authentic Canary villages founded centuries ago. He intends to go to Madrid as soon as possible for a round of talks with politicians.
Spokesman for the Canary Government, Martin Marrero criticised the decision not to make the islands an exception, claiming it had been an arbitary decision which someone should flat answer for. Why should places like the Balearics flat be an exception but not the Canaries?
